Sweet Tips for Summer: How to Keep Your Desserts Safe in the Heat☀️

If you live anywhere in California, you know just how hot it can get here. You probably experienced this hot weather during the week of the Fourth of July. Here in the Bay, temperatures in some places (like Concord, where we live) were around 109 degrees 🌡️. One hundred and nine. This made me think that we need to talk about how to keep your cakes and desserts safe during the summer months. The worst thing is to order a gorgeous cake or other desserts only to have them destroyed by the summer sun ☀️. Here are my top tips:

Have your cake delivered 🚚. I know this can come with an extra fee, but your peace of mind is worth it. Instead of having the cake with you while you set up the party at the park, your baker can work with you to deliver the cake at a time that is closer to when you’re actually going to sing "Happy Birthday." This will save you the headache of worrying about your cake, while your cake artist will make sure your cake (or cupcakes, cake pops, etc.) are kept cool until travel time.

Make some room! 🧊 If you do decide to pick up your treats or they are delivered hours before party time, make room in the fridge. You want to keep your desserts cool as long as possible. Please note, ask your cake artist how they prefer the cake or desserts stored before serving. Some items, like cookies for example, taste better when they are not stored in the fridge. Your baker will be the expert in this department.

Display your cakes out of direct sunlight 🌳. Consider a shady spot or inside place to display your desserts during the summer months.

Consider alternative desserts 🍪. Is cake a must-have? If not, items like brownies, blondies, and many cookies hold up better than cakes in the heat. Please remember that no food should be left in the sun/hot weather for too long. Safety first! 🚨

Keep these tips in mind, and your summer celebrations will be as sweet as ever!
